Web applications or web apps are computer programs that allow visitors to a given website to submit or retrieve data over the Internet through a web browser. The retrieved data is presented within a web browser since the information gets generated dynamically.
Examples of web apps include office software like online spreadsheets, presentation tools and word processors. Others include point of sale, project management, video editing and computer aided design web apps.
Advantages of web applications
In large organizations you don’t need complex procedures for rolling out a web app. All that is needed is a web browser that is compatible with the app. Little if any disk space is required to run web apps. Since any new feature is implemented on a server and delivered automatically to the app users there is no need for any upgrade procedure.
Web apps are known to integrate seamlessly into server side processes like searching and email. Due to the fact that web apps are browser based they are compatible with Linux, Windows and Mac and other operating systems.
